Phantom of the Opera Is Open at the Pantages

It’s official. The Phantom of the Opera opens at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre tonight, Wednesday, June 24, 2026, and plays through August 9. That’s a limited summer run of just over seven weeks, about 50 performances, and then it’s gone.

This isn’t the production your parents saw. It’s Cameron Mackintosh’s reworked staging of the Andrew Lloyd Webber classic, the same version that’s been touring North America, and it lands in Hollywood for the summer. So if you’ve been waiting for a reason to finally see Phantom, or see it again, this is the window.

Here’s what’s playing, whether it’s worth your night, and how to get in without paying resale prices.

Should you rush to see it, or can you wait?

Short version: if you’ve never seen Phantom live, go this summer. The story still lands, the score is wall-to-wall famous, and seeing that chandelier move in a real room beats any screen or cast recording. The Pantages is also the right house for it. The Art Deco interior fits the show’s gothic mood better than most touring stops.

If you have seen the original many times, the question is different. This staging trades some of the old set pieces for new stagecraft, and the chandelier behaves differently now. Some longtime fans love it, some miss the original. We broke down exactly what changed, scene by scene, in our new Phantom vs the original comparison. Read that first if you’re protective of the version you grew up with.

For our full honest verdict, including who tends to walk out thrilled and who walks out shrugging, see our Phantom at the Pantages review.

Where to sit for this show

Phantom is a spectacle, and the staging is built around a few big visual moments, the chandelier above all. That changes the seat math compared to a normal musical.

Quick version: you want to be far enough back and high enough to catch the whole stage picture and the chandelier’s full path, which means center orchestra (rows E to K) or the front mezzanine are the sweet spots. The rear orchestra under the mezzanine overhang is the one area to skip for this show, because the overhang clips the top of the set and you lose part of the chandelier moment.

The cheapest way in right now

Regular tickets for a limited run like this climb fast, especially on resale. A few ways to keep it cheap:

  • $40 rush at the box office. A limited number of $40 rush tickets go on sale in person at the Pantages box office, 2 hours before each performance, limit 2 per ID. This is the cheapest reliable way in if you can show up early and you’re flexible on seat location.
  • The digital lottery. Broadway in Hollywood runs an official digital lottery for select performances through its app. Download the Broadway in Hollywood app, open the Tickets tab, and any open lottery shows up there. It’s a long shot, but the seats are deeply discounted when you win.
  • Buy direct, not resale. Start at the Pantages box office or Broadway in Hollywood before any resale site. Resale prices for a summer-only Phantom run spike hard, and the box office often holds single seats the resale market hides.

The full per-venue playbook, including how Pantages rush and lottery compare to other LA houses, is in our LA theatre lottery and rush cheat sheet and our how to get cheap LA theatre tickets guide. To price a whole evening out, run it through our show-night cost calculator.

Plan the rest of the night

The Pantages sits right on Hollywood Boulevard, so the logistics are their own little puzzle:

  • Parking and getting out. Hollywood Blvd traffic after a show is the part people underestimate. Sort it ahead with parking near the Hollywood Pantages. The Metro B Line stops at Hollywood and Vine, right by the theatre, and skips the whole parking crawl.
  • Dinner before. Good pre-show options within walking distance are in our where to eat before a Pantages show guide. Book early. A 7 or 8pm curtain fills nearby tables fast.
