The 2026 Hollywood Bowl season is big, and not just because the calendar is long. This is Gustavo Dudamel’s last summer as the LA Phil’s music director, so the farewell nights carry extra weight, and the lineup mixes those with pop headliners, movie-score nights, and the classical concerts the Bowl was built for.
That’s a lot to sort through, and most “what to see” lists just print the whole calendar or quietly push a ticket app. This one doesn’t. Below is my honest take: which nights are worth paying up for, which ones you can see for a dollar, and which to skip unless you’re already a fan. Then I’ll show you how to get in cheap and where to sit.
Dates and prices move, and shows get added all season, so always double-check the official page before you buy.
The quick answer
- Splurge on: the Dudamel farewell nights in late August, the Foo Fighters and Dudamel one-off on August 22, the John Williams movie-music tribute in September, and the July 4 fireworks if you’ve never done it.
- Best value (as low as $1): the Tuesday and Thursday classical nights and the Wednesday jazz nights. Same Bowl, same stars, top-of-the-hill seats for a dollar on many of them. This is the local secret.
- See it for cheap, not full price: crowd-pleasers like the Wes Anderson film night or St. Vincent’s symphonic show. Great evenings, but go for a value seat, not a box.
- Only if you’re a fan: the big legacy-pop headliners (think Rod Stewart, Andrea Bocelli). They’re fine, but you’re paying arena prices for an artist the Bowl doesn’t make better.

The nights worth paying full price for
These are the ones I’d build a summer around. Special, likely to sell out, and the kind of evening you can’t recreate cheaply later.
Celebrating Gustavo at the Bowl (August 21 and 23). Dudamel has led the LA Phil for 17 seasons, and 2026 is his last before he heads to New York. These two nights are the proper send-off, “Dudamel’s Playlist” on the 21st and “A Musical Legacy” on the 23rd. If you’ve put off seeing him conduct, this is the year, and these are the nights. They will sell out, so don’t wait.
Foo Fighters with Dudamel (August 22). This is the rare one. A stadium rock band sharing the stage with a classical conductor and orchestra, for one night, slotted right between the two farewell concerts. You won’t see this pairing again. Worth a real seat.
Maestro of the Movies: A Tribute to John Williams (September 4 to 6). The LA Phil playing Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jaws, and Jurassic Park with film clips on the big screens. It’s a perennial Bowl favorite for a reason, and it plays great for families and first-timers. Three nights, so you have options.
July 4 Fireworks Spectacular with the Beach Boys (July 2 to 4). The classic Bowl bucket-list night, fireworks over the shell with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. If you’ve never done a Fourth here, do it once. We’ve got a full preview of the three nights coming, including which date and where the fireworks actually fall, so check our What’s On hub for that.
This is Dudamel’s last summer at the Bowl. If you only go once in 2026, make it one of the farewell nights.
The best value: $1 and cheap nights
Here’s the part the sponsored lists leave out. The Bowl sells $1 seats at the top of the hill for many LA Phil concerts every summer, across roughly 28 nights: the Tuesday and Thursday classical concerts and the Wednesday jazz concerts. Same orchestra, same stars, same shell. You’re just up high, which at the Bowl is a fine place to be with a picnic.
A few value picks I’d actually plan around:
- Tchaikovsky Spectacular with Fireworks (July 31 and August 1). Classical night, fireworks, prices starting around $29, and it’s one of the dollar-seat eligible evenings. Huge bang for very little money.
- St. Vincent with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra (August 2). A genuinely interesting crossover, an indie star reworked for full orchestra. Tickets start cheap. Go for a value seat and enjoy it.
- Music from the Films of Wes Anderson (July 10 to 12). A fun, low-stakes movie-music night that’s easy on the wallet (from around $27). Perfect for a casual evening with friends.
And the cheapest option of all: free open rehearsals. The LA Phil usually opens some Tuesday and Thursday morning rehearsals to the public, around 9am to noon. They don’t confirm which mornings until the Monday of that week, so call Audience Services at 323-850-2000 to check. It’s a quiet, locals-in-the-know way to hear world-class music for nothing.
Great shows, but see them for cheap
These are good nights that aren’t worth a premium box. Go, but go smart:
- Juneteenth with Chance the Rapper (June 19). Fun, celebratory, and priced fairly from around $29. A mid-level seat is plenty.
- Opening Night: The Best of Broadway (June 20). A nice kickoff to the season if the timing works, but it’s a sampler, not a full show. Value seats only.
- A Roots Picnic Experience with Nas and friends. A strong hip-hop and roots night, but it’s a festival-style bill, so the lawn-level energy matters more than a close seat.
Only if you’re a fan
I’d be honest with you here, because nobody else will. The Bowl books a lot of legacy-pop headliners at near-arena prices: Rod Stewart, Andrea Bocelli, Paul Simon, John Mellencamp, Smokey Robinson and Gladys Knight, and an ’80s night with the Human League and Soft Cell. None of these are bad. But the Bowl’s magic is the orchestra, the setting, and the value nights. For a straight pop concert, you’re paying top dollar for an artist who’d sound the same in an arena, minus the long parking exit.
So my rule: if you love the artist, go and enjoy it. If you’re just looking for “a night at the Bowl,” you’ll get more for your money from the classical, jazz, and movie nights above.
How to get any of these cheap
The single biggest mistake is buying on a resale site in a panic. Don’t. Here’s the order to try:
- Official site first, on-sale day. Single tickets for 2026 went on sale May 5. Buy direct at hollywoodbowl.com.
- $1 and low-cost seats for the Tuesday, Thursday, and Wednesday LA Phil nights (above).
- Free open rehearsals on select Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
- Last-minute deals. Single seats and returns sometimes open up close to showtime for sold-out nights.

Where to sit, and getting there
Where you sit changes a Bowl night more than the headliner does. The boxes are social and close, the bench seats up top are cheap and surprisingly good with a picnic, and a few spots are worth avoiding. We break it all down section by section in our best seats at the Hollywood Bowl guide.
Two more things that make or break the evening:
- Parking. The stacked lots are the classic Bowl headache. Know your exit plan before you go, or use Park and Ride. Full details in our Hollywood Bowl parking guide.
- Your picnic. You can bring food, and on many nights wine, so this is a huge money-saver and half the fun. See the Hollywood Bowl picnic guide for the rules and what to pack.

FAQ
What are the best shows at the Hollywood Bowl in 2026? The standouts are Gustavo Dudamel’s farewell nights (August 21 and 23), the one-off Foo Fighters and Dudamel concert on August 22, the John Williams movie-music tribute (September 4 to 6), and the July 4 Fireworks Spectacular with the Beach Boys. For value, the Tuesday and Thursday classical nights and Wednesday jazz nights are the smart picks.
How can I see a Hollywood Bowl show cheap? Many LA Phil concerts (the Tuesday and Thursday classical nights and Wednesday jazz nights, around 28 in all) sell $1 seats at the top of the Bowl. There are also free public rehearsals on select Tuesday and Thursday mornings, roughly 9am to noon. Buy direct at the official site and avoid resale pages.
Is the Hollywood Bowl worth it for the July 4 fireworks? Yes, once. The fireworks over the shell with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra is a real LA bucket-list night. It runs three nights (July 2 to 4) with the Beach Boys in 2026. After you’ve done it, the classical and movie nights are better value.
When did 2026 Hollywood Bowl tickets go on sale? Single tickets for the 2026 season went on sale May 5, 2026, at the official Hollywood Bowl site. Some nights sell out, but returns and last-minute seats sometimes open closer to showtime.
Where should I sit at the Hollywood Bowl? It depends on the show and your budget. Boxes are close and social, the upper bench seats are cheap and fine with a picnic, and a few sections are worth skipping. Our best-seats guide breaks it down section by section.
