About

Experience iconic outdoor concerts at The Greek Theatre, nestled in the scenic Griffith Park of Los Angeles. Since its opening in 1930, this historic amphitheater has hosted legendary performers from Frank Sinatra to modern stars like Harry Styles, offering unforgettable live music in a natural canyon setting. With superb acoustics and a capacity of 5,900, it provides an intimate yet grand atmosphere for music enthusiasts.

History

The Greek Theatre originated from Griffith J. Griffith’s donation of land for Griffith Park in 1896, with funds allocated in his will for its construction. Groundbreaking occurred in 1928, and the venue officially opened on September 25, 1930, with its first performance on June 26, 1931. During World War II, it served as barracks. Post-war, it hosted touring shows and musicals. From 1952 to 1975, James Doolittle leased and upgraded it, bringing in classical productions and concerts. Nederlander Organization managed it from 1975 to 2015, with renovations including an earthquake retrofit in 1995 and facade restoration in 2006 for its 75th anniversary. Since 2015, it’s operated by the City of Los Angeles with partners, hosting legendary artists like Elton John, Aretha Franklin, and modern acts like Olivia Rodrigo.
